Kanyamazane residents have been urged to remain vigilant following a housebreaking incident in which five mobile phones were stolen from a local home. According to Sergeant Mthethwa from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Kanyamazane, the suspects gained entry through a window during the night. They managed to steal the phones before fleeing the scene.
Speaking as part of a broader warning about crime, Sergeant Mthethwa highlighted that incidents such as housebreakings tend to increase as the winter season approaches. Longer nights and reduced outdoor activity often create opportunities for criminals to target homes.
Police are urging residents to take simple safety precautions, including:
- Ensuring all windows and doors are securely closed and locked
- Keeping valuables out of sight
- Remaining alert and reporting any suspicious activity
Sergeant Mthethwa emphasized that community awareness and cooperation with police can help reduce crime and protect households during the winter period.
Residents are encouraged to stay cautious and prioritize home security as crime levels begin to rise.
