Lihawu/Emoyeni D1723 Road Project In Progresses In Pienaar

The Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport has updated residents of Pienaar and surrounding areas on the progress of the Lihawu/Emoyeni Road construction project, which is now underway.

The Department confirmed that the initial contractor withdrew from the project after failing to meet performance standards and deadlines, despite several efforts to address the issues. A new contractor, Umdali Civils, has since been appointed and is currently on-site, with work already in progress.

The contractor has begun mobilising equipment and personnel and is prioritising the maintenance of the road between Lihawu and Emoyeni Mall to ensure safety for all road users. Construction is moving ahead at an accelerated pace to recover lost time and ensure the project is completed as scheduled.

The Department, together with its consulting engineers, has intensified monitoring to ensure strict adherence to quality standards and timelines. Member of the Executive Council for the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport also called for weekly progress reports and urged the community to support the project by allowing uninterrupted access to the site to avoid further delays.
